With the dawning of 2025, you may be considering what you’d like to focus on this year, trying something different or perhaps learning something new. Below we’ve summarised a few key themes that you might like to explore in these opening months.
Walks, Sports & Societies
After the celebrations of the festive season, it can be nice to get moving again. If you’re looking for inspiration, we’ve got a multitude of classes and clubs for you to try out: from yoga, running and bowls, to circuits, rugby and dance. For the younger members of the community, we’ve a dedicated section for Youth Clubs, including Scouts, Guides and Cadets, Devon Young Farmers, Music and Theatre groups along with various sports.
If you’d rather get outside and explore the local area, we’ve got over 20 walking routes to share with you covering woods, valleys, stunning hilltop views and streams, ranging from 2.5 – 8.5 miles; a lovely way to discover somewhere new.
Music, Arts & History
We really are spoiled for choice when it comes to local events, and there’s always something to see, get involved with or learn. If history’s your thing, how about learning about our South West Roman Roads, the evolution of Devon’s Folk Songs or the stories behind the headlines with the Crediton Couriers longstanding Editor?
If books are more your bag, don’t forget to checkout The Bookery’s regular author speaker series – a great way to find out about new publications, different genres and maybe even meet some of your favourite writers.
When it comes to entertainment, we’ve regular Open Mic Nights and Cinema Clubs to enjoy, not to mention incredible exhibition venues and performance spaces. For example, be inspired by the latest abstract art exhibition at The White Room, perplexed by a magic show at Crediton Arts Centre and enthralled by classical concerts at the Parish Church. Also look out for more information on the upcoming ’Spring Awakening Festival’ in March, with a brilliant line-up of musical performances coming to you from venues across Crediton.
If you’d like to get involved with something creative yourself, don’t forget the Art-Coustics workshop series is running across this winter season, or try your hand at Japanese Apron making at the Makers’ Boutique.
Sustainability & Gardening
It’s hard not to be motivated by the beautiful landscape that we live in in Mid Devon. Join the Crediton Garden Club for their topical talks, in the next months celebrating the Olive and the Secret Life of Bulbs. Or maybe you’d prefer to support Sustainable Crediton with their Clothes Swap event?
If you’re looking to sample more of our local produce, we’ve got our fortnightly Farmers’ Market to explore, or if you prefer your produce cooked for you, Dinnertime’s Supper Club is back to enjoy, whilst the Baobab Café is hosting a series of masterclasses and themed food evenings to get your teeth into.
As always, find out more about what’s going on in Crediton and the surrounding villages on our What’s On pages.
