After a flurry of snow, it definitely feels like the festive season has arrived! As usual, there’s lots going on locally to help you get in the festive spirit and we’re spoiled with great local businesses to support you with your Christmas preparations.

Christmas in Crediton:

Celebrations kick-off in Crediton with the town’s annual ‘Christmas in Crediton’ event (Saturday 30th November) on the Square, including live music, food & drink, free entertainment for kids and a Santa’s Grotto, culminating in the switch-on of the Christmas lights.

Following this is the ever-popular Christmas Tree Festival in the Parish Church (5th – 8th December), showcasing a forest of trees, decorated by local community groups, and accompanied by a Xmas Jazz concert on the 5th and Seasonal Music concert on the 7th (with the Holy Cross Church Choir and Crediton Town Band).

Local Festive Activities:

Festivities continue in our local villages. Pop along to Tedburn St.Mary’s ChristmasMarket (7th December), featuring lots of great stalls and a Santa’s Grotto, or book your tickets for Shobrooke’s village pantomime of Aladdin (12th – 14th December) for mystery and laughter (oh yes they did!). If carols are more your thing, join The Sandford Sings Choir on Sandford Square(18th December) for a festive singalong, with song sheets provided. Prefer to test your knowledge? Get your team together for The Lamb Inn’s Festive Charity Quiz Night.

Shopping:

Looking for that perfect gift? You’ll be spoiled for choice. With an incredible range of local independent shops to explore, you’ll find everything from clothing, artwork, games, sweets and homeware, to coffee, books, craft supplies, eco-friendly gifts and antiques. You can find out more on our Shop listings, or take advantage of the Late Night Shopping event on Friday 29th November, or the Farmers Markets (held in Crediton Square the first and third Saturday of every month).

If you’re thinking about your Christmas menus, don’t forget we’ve got great independent Butchers, Bakers, Greengrocers, Wine Merchants and Farm Shops to make the most of and celebrate our delicious local produce from. And if you don’t feel like cooking or are looking for places to catch-up with friends, check out the fantastic local pubs, restaurants, cafes and takeaways in Crediton and our brilliant local villages.

Creative Workshops:

Christmas is a great time to get creative too. Book your spot on the White Room’s Fun Festive Printmaking Workshops, and come away with your own handmade cards, wrapping paper and prints (7th – 8th December). For an evening event, you could also join the Ladies Craft Evening at the Congregational Church, accompanied by mulled wine and festive refreshments. In addition, Turning Tides and Significant Seams are running a series called ‘Art-Coustics’ every Monday and several Tuesdays through Winter, featuring a range of creative activities and including a free hot lunch – hosted at either The Bookery or Crediton Station Tearooms.
