Between the 7 and 22 September artists all over Devon will be throwing open their doors, and inviting people to look behind the scenes of an artist’s studio. The county’s creative people will be demonstrating and showcasing their work in attics, sheds, galleries and other creative spaces and there will be plenty to explore in and around Crediton.
Devon Open Studios is an annual event organised by the Devon Artists Network which supports artists and makers all the year round. The art and craft on display and for sale will include drawing, painting, sculpture, tapestry, ceramics, jewellery and glasswork.
It is a great opportunity for people interested in work created in Devon to travel around our glorious county, discover new places and meet with artists and see their work, often where it has been created.
Here are the artists exhibiting in and around Crediton. Click on their names to get details of their exact location and opening times.
If you would like to link up with artists in the countryside, there are three painters and printmakers, working in various media in Cheriton Fitzpaine, Sara & Simon Bor and Carrie Clarke (MD8) and Graham Sartist (MD6) is in Cadeleigh.
Lesa Gray (MD9) is an abstract artist working in East Village. John Howells (MD12) has his work on display in Upton Pyne. Catherine West of Significant Seams (MD15) is showing work in Knowle. If you are into ceramics, Nancy Murgatroyd (MD14) is in Hollacombe and Rose-Marie Stidston is in Cheriton Bishop (MD17).
Just off Crediton High Street are Tim Backhouse’s drawings (MD13). In addition you can find the work of 14 more artists and makers all in one place at The White Room Creative Space on Lords Meadow Industrial Estate (MD16). A cornucopia of talent and variety!

Artists choose their opening times and those are shown on the website. Most artists do not open every day. It is important to check on the website before you set out as some opening times might have changed since the brochures were printed.
All the artists give an address and postcode and most list a What3Words link to help people find them. What3Words is an app which can be downloaded onto your phone. The 3 words the artists list should lead you to their door.
